26 Cheap Spring Date Ideas for Couples Bored of Coffee Dates
Spring is the season when everything comes back to life—in Slovenia, we have a saying that “the birds are getting married,” and there truly is something magical in the air. Valentine’s Day has just passed, the days are getting warmer, and after a long, dark winter, we suddenly feel more energetic, happier, and more motivated to get out and do something. If you’ve spent the entire winter indoors, cuddled up under a blanket watching movies while coming up with excuses not to go outside, now is the perfect time to change that. And no, I definitely don’t mean going to the same café you always end up visiting whenever you run out of ideas.
That’s why I’ve put together a great list of cheap spring date ideas for couples —browse through them and quickly pick the perfect one for your next spring date.
1. Outdoor Picnic
Oh, picnics never fail. There’s nothing better than warm sunshine, plenty of delicious food, and a fun game to go along with it (or badminton, frisbee, a ball, and so on). So grab some tasty snacks, a bottle of wine, a couple of glasses, and find a peaceful spot—whether it’s a park or somewhere near the woods.
2. Camping Under The Stars
The days are already getting warmer, even though the evenings can still be quite chilly. But that’s no problem—if you have a tent, sleeping bags, and an extra warm blanket, go camping. Pack everything you’ll need, don’t forget to bring something fun to do in the evening, find a nice nearby location, and let the adventure begin.
3. Volunteer Together
It may sound unusual for a date, but give it a try. Find a local animal shelter or food bank that’s looking for volunteers and sign up together for a few hours. It doesn’t cost a thing, and it’s just the right amount of time to chat and enjoy each other’s company while helping others.
4. Night Walk With Flashlights
Take two flashlights (or use your phones if that’s all you have), find a nearby forest trail, and head out after dark. Dress warmer than you would during the day because evenings can still be quite cold.
5. Gardening Challenge
Plant something together—herbs on the balcony, tomatoes or peppers in a pot or garden, whatever you have space for. All you need is some soil, pots or a garden bed, seeds or seedlings, and a little patience.
6. Adrenaline Day
Look for a climbing gym, archery range, or go-kart track nearby—many of them offer affordable deals or group discounts, especially during the week. Dress comfortably and get ready to laugh at yourselves a little.
7. Botanical Garden And Picnic Lunch
If there’s a botanical garden nearby, spring is the perfect time to visit because everything is in full bloom. Check the admission fee—many gardens offer free entry on certain days. After your walk, find a bench or a grassy spot and enjoy the lunch you brought with you.

8. Fishing
Find a nearby lake or river where fishing is allowed, check whether you need a permit, and bring whatever equipment you already have or can borrow. You don’t even have to catch anything—just bring some snacks to enjoy while you wait.
9. Astronomy Night
Pick a clear night, grab a blanket or a couple of lounge chairs, and head somewhere away from the city lights—preferably out in the countryside or on a hill. If you have a telescope, bring it along; if not, that’s perfectly fine too. There are also mobile apps that can identify stars, planets, and galaxies by simply pointing your phone at the sky. While waiting for it to get completely dark, you can learn a little about the constellations and planets you’re seeing—it quickly turns into a surprisingly interesting conversation.
10. Mystery Flea Market Shopping
Set the same budget for each of you—say $5 or €5—and separately browse a flea market or local market to find a surprise gift for each other. The rule is simple: whatever you find within the budget becomes your gift.
11. Flying Kites And Ice Cream From A Food Truck
Find a large field or park with plenty of space and bring a kite or a frisbee with you. If there’s a food truck nearby, treat yourselves to an ice cream afterward—it’s a small detail that makes the whole date feel extra special.
12. Hiking Or Cycling Through Blooming Nature
Find a nearby trail known for its spring blossoms—orchards, meadows full of daisies, or whatever is currently blooming in your area. Take your time, don’t rush, and stop whenever you find a beautiful spot for a photo or simply to admire the view.

13. Spring Cleaning Together
Empty out your closet, sort through the things you no longer need, and donate them to a local charity. Once you’re done, head out for lunch or coffee and celebrate finally getting your home organized again.
14. Finger Painting Or Watercolor Painting Outdoors
Bring a sketchbook and some paints or colored pencils, find a beautiful outdoor spot, and try painting what you see—without putting pressure on yourselves to make it look perfect. Art relaxes a part of the brain that ordinary conversation doesn’t reach, which is why many people feel more relaxed after a spring date like this than after almost any other kind of date.
15. Step Outside Your Comfort Zone
Maybe it’s heights, maybe speed, maybe water—find something that both of you are just a little afraid of. A zip line, white-water rafting, rock climbing. Facing a shared fear together creates a unique kind of connection that a quiet dinner simply can’t match.
16. A Longer Hike Or Reaching A Summit
Choose a destination that’s a bit more challenging than your usual walk—a hilltop, a scenic viewpoint, or a trail that takes several hours. Bring plenty of water and snacks, and enjoy the view once you reach the top.
17. Horseback Riding Or Visiting A Farm
Find a nearby farm that offers horseback riding or simply lets visitors meet the animals. You don’t have to know how to ride—many farms offer guided sessions for complete beginners, and even just spending time around the animals is a refreshing break from everyday life.
18. Outdoor Concert, Movie, Or Drive-In Cinema
Spring and summer bring plenty of outdoor events—check what’s happening in your area, whether it’s a concert in the park, an outdoor movie screening, or a drive-in theater. Bring a blanket or some chairs along with a few snacks.

19. Charity Run
Sign up together for a local charity run. You don’t have to be fast or even run the entire distance—many events also offer shorter routes or more relaxed options. Besides getting some exercise, you’ll also have the rewarding feeling of giving back to the community.
20. Hot Air Balloon Ride
If you’re able to spend a little more, this is one of those dates you’ll remember for a long time. Seeing the landscape from above at sunrise or sunset is an experience unlike any ordinary day.
21. Rent A Boat
Find a nearby lake or river where you can rent a boat for a few hours. You don’t need sailing experience or a motorboat license—many places also rent out rowboats or pedal boats, letting you set your own pace.
22. Laser Tag Or Airsoft
Find a local laser tag or airsoft center, book a session for the two of you, and dress comfortably. Prices are often lower during the week, so be sure to check for special offers.
23. Build A LEGO Set Or Complete A Jigsaw Puzzle
Buy a larger LEGO set or a 1,000-piece jigsaw puzzle, set a timer, and compete to see if you can finish faster than last time. Make yourselves comfortable on the floor or at a table where no one will disturb you.
24. Trampoline Park
Find a trampoline park nearby, check the opening hours and ticket prices (many offer discounts for couples or off-peak hours). Wear comfortable clothes that allow you to move freely.
25. Who Knows Their Partner Better?
Each of you takes a sheet of paper and writes down 10 questions about the other person—favorite color, biggest fear, dreams, and so on. Then compete to see who knows their partner better. All you need is paper, a pen, and a glass of wine if you’d like.
26. Thrift Store Outfit Challenge
Go to a thrift store, and each of you picks the craziest outfit possible for the other person. The catch is that you both have to wear whatever was chosen. To make the challenge even more interesting, set the rules in advance—for example, agree on a budget per person and the exact number of clothing items each of you has to pick (such as pants and a shirt, or a dress and socks—however you decide).
